「明華園日字戲劇團」創團於2003年，秉持明華園九十載的戲曲根基，接續薪火傳承的重任，劇團營運是由 臺灣第一丑角 陳勝在與明華園當家女主角 鄭雅升，共同承擔團務，以永續與傳承的理念，帶領劇團第三代子弟兵共同創作、發表演出。陳勝在團長並以超過上萬場舞臺表演經驗，細細打造作品角色、捏塑每齣戲劇創作精神，試圖讓傳承重任的年輕一代，擁有屬於自己的表演風格。
「明華園日字戲劇團」從小劇場到大劇場，從小野臺到藝術文化公演，從校園薪傳講座在到表演藝術經驗分享，努力耕耘作品，用全方位角度思考創作，歷年來新作發表都可以看見日團在創作上，有這獨特且突出的手法。陳勝在團長擅用最突出的〝丑〞角元素，讓丑角躍升劇中靈魂中心，在〝笑〞果中突顯生、旦情緒，其作品皆富涵自身本質特色，2007年海峽兩岸民間藝術節中，編導作品「張古董租妻」獲得兩岸專家學者一致讚揚與肯定。
「明華園日字戲劇團」秉持永續傳承歌仔戲百年文化，力邀年輕一代戲劇新秀，勇於挑戰多元角色，積極培養劇團子弟兵，近年劇團新秀逐漸展現成績，2014年兩岸名角選拔賽中，新生代魅力小旦 陳昭薇 挑戰兩岸強力選手，即獲得亞軍殊榮。
西方有位莎翁，威廉 莎士比亞(William Shakespeare)人人肯定他是一位劃時代浪漫愛情作家，他的作品有許多層面是富涵〝喜劇元素〞，在喜劇中隱含悲傷。這樣的作品特質，在日團戲劇當中也時常展露，日團擁有廣闊無侷限的創作空間，第一丑角陳勝在老師也將人生舞臺經驗的酸甜苦辣，用喜劇效果精彩呈現。

Ming Hwa Yuan-the Ri Theatrical Troupe was founded in 2003. Undertaking the mission to transmit the legacy of Ming Hwa Yuan, world renowned Taiwanese opera troupe lasting for more than 90 years, the Ri Theatrical Troupe was managed and operated by CHEN, SHENG-TSAI and CHENG, YA-SHENG, the former a principal clown character and the latter a female lead in Ming Hwa Yuan. Both aim to sustain and transmit the tradition and lead the third generation to create and perform new productions. Chen, director of the troupe, has starred in tens of thousands of staged performances. Based on his experience, he is able to craft each character from the ground up and breathe life into every play. He hopes that the younger generation can find their own voice and pass down the legacy.
The Ri Theatrical Troupe is extremely versatile. From small theatre to grand playhouse, from street performance to formal shows, from informal talk to seminar on campus, the Troupe is in full-speed mode to create new works by bringing in unique perspectives. Such can be reflected in its most recent productions. Director Chen is adept at leveraging his strength, the clown’s role, making it the heart of the play, and accentuating the male and female lead among the whimsical vibe. In the 2007 Cross-Strait Folk-Art Festival, his brainchild, “Antique Chang Renting a Wife”, was highly praised by scholars across the Strait.
Aiming to transmit the decade-old Taiwanese opera tradition, the Ri Theatrical Troupe aggressively onboards rising talents and puts them in diverse roles. Results have been seen in recent years. In 2014, CHEN, CHAO-WEI was awarded second prize among strong contestants in a cross-Strait traditional opera competition.
William Shakespeare was recognized as a legendary romance play writer. Although comic elements abound in many of his works, a tone of sorrow is often hidden underneath. This character can also be widely seen in the Ri Theatrical Troupe. With infinite imagination, Director Chen tends to present all flavors of life in the form of an incredible comedy.
We retain the essence of Taiwanese opera while telling stories that you and me can both relate to. Watching a play is meant to be joyful, worry-free. The Ming Hwa Yuan Ri-Zi Theatrical Troupe was established in 2003, with the mission of inheriting and innovating traditional Taiwanese opera. Building on the ninety-year foundation of Ming Hwa Yuan, the troupe continues to pass on cultural and artistic heritage. It is led by Taiwan’s premier clown performer, Chen Sheng-Zai, and Ming Hwa Yuan’s leading actress, Zheng Ya-Sheng, who together guide the third generation of performers in their creative and performance endeavors. With over ten thousand stage performances under his belt, Troupe Leader Chen meticulously crafts the characters, striving to imbue the younger generation with their unique performance style.
Adhering to the principles of sustainability and inheritance, the Ming Hwa Yuan Ri-Zi Theatrical Troupe performs in various venues, from small theaters to large stages, from outdoor platforms to cultural performances, and from campus lectures to sharing experiences in performing arts. They diligently cultivate their works, infusing their creations with comprehensive perspectives, and their new productions each year showcase their distinctive and outstanding creative techniques.
The troupe places particular emphasis on the significance of clown roles in their dramas. Troupe Leader Chen adeptly uses clown characters, elevating them to the soul of the play, highlighting the emotions of the sheng and dan roles through humor. Their works are rich in their inherent characteristics, with the 2007 production “Zhang Gu-Dong Rents a Wife” receiving unanimous praise and recognition from experts and scholars across the Taiwan Strait.
